The Greatest Unknown Trout Fishery in Oregon:
Sea-Run Cutthroat, Fall 2009 Maybe there were more fish this year, maybe we fished more, perhaps we got lucky... Anyway you slice it the sea-run cutthroat trout fishing this Fall was simply fantastic. We ran our first trip on the Oregon Coast in late-August, taking a dozen fish up to 17" and never looked back. Throughout the season we averaged 25 fish a day with a typical size of 13-15 inches. We landed several fish in the 20 inch range and lots around 17-18 inches. Whether you fished dry flies, streamers, or spinners it didn't seem to matter, these wild trout came running. We had the rivers to ourselves nearly every day floating shallow sections of the river in the raft, away from the crowds and into the fish. Just the way we like it. This technique also yielded some great early season salmon action, as well as a few late Summer steelhead. Always a bonus and so very exciting on light tackle. One customer landed a 10lb Chrome silver on 4lb tippet while another had a 25 pound chinook chase his skated dry fly right up to his feet. We had so much fun this season and would like to thank all the fantastic anglers who joined us in our boats. It was a season we won't soon forget.
