2008 Guided Fishing in Oregon Season Highlights!
Steelhead, Coho, Chinook and Sea-Run Cutthroat
Sandy, Siletz, Clackamas, and North Fork Nehalem Rivers

2008 was, all in all, a pretty decent year for Oregon anadromous fish. We saw average Winter Steelhead numbers, average Summer Steelhead counts, good Sea-Run Cutthroats, above average Coho on both the Sandy and the Coast and below average Coastal Chinook. The dwindling returns of Coastal Chinook have been a serious issue since 2007. Both 2007 and 2008 were marked with very low returns that we have not seen in our lifetimes. To offer your support for this fish and to get your voice heard contact the Oregon Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association, working actively through legislative channels to help save our fish. Our favorite time to Winter Steelhead, late March, no other anglers around and lots of big bodied native steelhead, like this great wild buck. Long time customer Bob with a double stripe buck that fell to a light pink jig. Another March Nehalem fish, this one fell to an egg pattern on a fly rod. Sara Sampson, better half of guide Jesse with her very first Winter steelhead, a hatchery jack from the Siletz.

On a cloudy day in late August on the Siletz, Ryan landed this awesome sea-run cutthroat. Bright chrome and fresh from the saltwater, this fish didn't even have identifying cutt marks yet. Close up of a typical clackamas hen steelhead, taken in late August. About 28" and 8 pounds, spot on average for this river. Guide Jason Lewis with an early morning hen steelhead. This fish took hard in 3' of water and jumped an incredible 8 times! Jon Bial shows off a classic Summer run Clackamas steelhead he landed during the middle of a Summer day on bobber and shrimp.

Guide Jason Lewis displays a chrome Sandy river coho caught in September on bobber and eggs. Chromy silver goodness. There's a clear reason they call these fish Silvers. A great looking early september hen coho from the Sandy River. Two boys from Texas enjoyed some of the best the Oregon Coast has to offer. Warm sunny skies and a pair of super jacks, along with a bunch of sea-run cutts.

A pair of chrome jack chinook made their way from the river to the BBQ grill. Caught in Siletz Tidewater, early September In addition to coastal Chinook, we also guide to a few native Fall fish in the Sandy, like this moderate sized wild buck. This king fell to a sand shrimp colored jig fished under a bobber. Sandy Fall chinook are mixed in with early coho salmon (silvers), so please be sure to identify your fish correctly as all wild chinook must be released unharmed and hatchery coho may be taken for the dinenr table. A beautiful example of a sea-run cutthroat trout, caught in Siletz tidewater. This fish struck a #8 Black and Orange, one of our favorite SRC patterns.
