2005 was the last great Chinook run on the Oregon Coast and at the beginning of every Chinook season I think back to some of the days we had. The rains came a bit later than 2004, but when early November brought the downpours, the rivers absolutely caught fire for 2-3 weeks. We averaged over ten fish a day and had one day over twenty. I have experienced a lot of great King fishing in Alaska and this was as good or better for that period of time. We didn't catch a ton of huge fish, but the aveage 12-20 class fish were bright, angry and gave anglers a run for their money.

The steelhead season was spot-on normal with some great days, average days and tough days. Some long periods of dry weather kept the rivers low for weeks at a time and made winter steelheading just a bit tougher. Still, there were some great fish taken on the fly in the Nestucca, Siletz and other coastal creeks. All in all 2005 was another quality fishing seaon on the Oregon Coast. After big early November rains, bright Chinook were free to enter the river at will, sparking magical fishing There a few days every year when the Oregon Coast rivals Salmon fishing anywhere on the planet. This year mid-November was it, kicking out Chinook like this, almost as fast as you could catch them. Fish consistently averaged 15-20 lbs, but some like this buck, pushed 25.
